Your Absence
transforming sadness into peace

YOUR ABSENCE Your absence permeates my dreams I see you, knowing you are gone Your face appears wherever I turn Your hazel eyes peer from trees and rooftops. Your crooked smile radiates beatitudes Supreme blessedness suffuses my sleep Taking the bitterness from my grief Transforming sadness into peace. The burning questions melt away The answers unimportant now Your existence was a gift, meant to be, A miracle I never understood. Great wisdom resides beyond thought The thunder of insight shakes our being Silently, our spirits learn What cannot be taught with simple words. Love is conveyed whenever we pause Holding hands, breathing deep Asking, “why?” without language We communicate our bond. I could never hope to fathom The contagious smile you wore The pain you endured without complaint Or your passion for your songs. I found myself overwhelmed Reflecting on your fate You challenged my beliefs and convictions Inspiring the philosopher in me. © 2026 Stephanie M. Vargo

You haunt me like a hymn I never chose to learn… your absence a living thing, pressing its quiet weight into my ribs until even my grief begins to kneel.
