dismantling the truth
PROPAGANDA The truth has layers, I am told To lure the one that travels far Buried amongst the skin and bones Dangerous secrets find a home. Heretical, a witches’ brew Bubbles with intrigue unknown A silver arrow through the chest Silences the wrongs confessed. Beware the depths of circumstance The facts so carelessly unearthed Liberate a guilty man And send another to his death. Objectivity is a ruse A convenient measure to access When proving what one wants to prove And discarding all the rest. The subtleties and emphasis Unraveled by suspicious minds Are just layers of the tale Singled out to shift the blame, Who would’ve thought the meaning found Could contradict the logical end The uncertainty contained within Benefits unscrupulous men. This is what we face today From ambitious peddlers of the word A political world turned on its head The dismantling of what’s seen and heard. © 2025 Stephanie M. Vargo
