Lovesick
erasing the passage of time
LOVESICK
The sun is shining But not for me The morning light Leaves me cold. Dishes are stacked High in the sink A stark reminder that Life goes on. The dread of the day Claws at my throat The same old worries Rattle my brain. Nausea presses Hard on my chest My temples ache From crying each night. It’s been this way For several months There is nothing compelling To drive me on. I sip warm coffee I rub my eyes To clear the fog I drag along. Since you left The birds don’t sing My broken heart Just wants to sleep. I’ll erase The passage of time With sad daydreams That numb the mind. The long evenings Are the worst Without your touch I hunger and thirst. I’m lovesick There’s no better word To describe the condition That imprisons my soul. ©2026 Stephanie M. Vargo

Omg. This stanza is incredible! …”I’ll erase
The passage of time
With sad daydreams
That numb the mind.”
