Celestial Rodeo
I dreamt that I could fly
CELESTIAL RODEO

Crowned with feathers on my brow I dreamt that I could fly As evanescent as a soap bubble As tenuous as a thought. Gliding on the wind My arms outstretched like wings Auburn hair dangling I rose into the blue. My dress a makeshift parachute To soften any fall I fearlessly approached the sun And circled ‘round the moon. The stars hung there like jewels Sparkling without shame A treasure trove of diamonds Glittering in the dark. I reached for one and plucked it up I wore it as a ring A belt made out of comets Slung across my waist. A glamorous cosmic cowgirl I rode a meteor home The streets and fields were aflame In the celestial rodeo. I landed on my bed Tangled in the sheets Groggy from my journey Smiling, half asleep. ©2026 Stephanie M. Vargo
