BROWN EYES

These brown eyes evoke sadness Impenetrable obsidian mirrors Capture the stain of the emotion in glass Frozen there, opaque and bottomless. They penetrate to the heart Razor sharp scalpels Extracting sympathy Impart an inescapable plea. Enticing in their obscurity They lure the gaze of the onlooker Magnetic and mysterious Questioning, they send chills Tingling down the spine. Hard with anger, they repel a glance With a piercing stare they punish Foreclosing attention and interest Intimidating the supplicant. With love, they soften Pupils indistinct and misty Sweet as warm maple syrup They bend the beloved to acquiesce. Desire burns smokey Hot coals glow, subdued, Smoldering embers Disguise the urge to pounce. ©2026 Stephanie M. Vargo
